Reuters has not been able to determine what intelligence agencies are looking for, Yahoo has provided data or not. It is not clear to Yahoo that any network company cooperates with US intelligence or not.
The news comes after Yahoo announced it was the victim of a cyberattack that left 500 million user accounts exposed. Two former Yahoo employees said Yahoo's decision to follow the confidentiality directive of Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer had made some high-profile Yahoo executives unhappy. Mayer was accused of allowing US intelligence to illegally access user safety. Information security leader Alex Stamos left in June 2015. Stamos is currently in charge of securing Facebook.
"Yahoo is a law-abiding company, and we always comply with all of the laws of the United States," he said.
